Emma Cat won first place in our 2014 Intermediate Amateur Silks competition, stunning us with her gorgeous lines, flexibility, and talent. This year she's returning to compete in our Advanced Aerial Silks division, and we can't wait to see her grace the Aerial Expo stage once again!
A: I competed in the Intermediate Silks division at the Expo last year, which was a wonderful experience. I got to meet and perform with some of the best up-and-coming Midwest aerialists! I also took a few workshops and got an amazing massage.
Q: What insights, inspiration, or ideas did you take away from the 2014 Aerial Expo?
A: There are so many different ways to express yourself in the world of aerial, dance, and acrobatics. Being part of an event where so many talents come together is so valuable to me as a performer, teacher, and student of the aerial arts. My main apparatus is silks, but I was definitely inspired to work more on static trapeze and straps after seeing them performed beautifully at the showcases.
Q. What are you most looking forward to for the 2015 Aerial Expo?
A: I cannot wait to compete in the Advanced Aerial Silks division this year! I know there will be even more talent than there was last year, and it’s always exciting to see different styles and points of view from a variety of performers. I’m also pumped to take some workshops with the talented instructors that will be there!
Q. When did you take your first aerial class and what was your initial impression like?
A: I took my very first aerial class in March of 2012, and I knew I’d be hooked. I had already become obsessed with it after I saw a performance a few months prior, so I was prepared to fall in love. It challenged me in ways I had never experienced before in all my years of exercising and yoga. It became my form of expression. It’s such a positive influence in my life and I’m so happy to be able to continue to explore it!
Q. What advice would you give to someone who is brand new to Aerial Expo?
A: Don’t miss any of the showcases! There is such good variety and lots of inspiring performances! Also, don’t be afraid to try something new! The Expo offers a supportive environment that fosters creativity – take advantage!
Emma will take the stage as part of our amateur silks competition on Saturday, August 22. Don't miss what is sure to be a breathtaking performance at this year's Aerial Expo!
